Spider Solitaire strategy

Spider rewards patience over speed. A few habits turn a hopeless-looking board into a win, especially once you move past a single suit.

Six habits that win deals

  1. Build in suit whenever you can. A run of one suit moves as a block; a mixed pile is stuck where it sits.
  2. Turn face-down cards face up as early as possible. Every hidden card is a move you cannot yet plan.
  3. Fight for an empty column and guard it. It is your only workspace for taking a mixed pile apart.
  4. Do not deal from the stock the moment you stall. Squeeze out every tableau move first — a deal drops ten new cards you cannot take back.
  5. Before you deal, fill every empty column. A row dealt onto gaps can bury the board for good.
  6. Think a few moves ahead. Trace which card needs to move where before you touch anything.

Play the long game

The players who clear four-suit deals are not faster — they plan further and use undo without shame. Trace a buried card's route out before committing, and if a line dead-ends, walk it back and try another. Nothing is lost by exploring.

Unlimited undo turns Spider into a puzzle you can reason about rather than a gamble. Use it to test a line, not just to fix a slip.
